Kate Morris was born in 1983 in Redding, California. She grew up in Sacramento and Nevada City, California. Kate graduated in 2004 from UC Santa Cruz with a degree in cultural anthropology.
Kate has travelled extensively, and enjoys studying differences in cultural expression, especially in street art.
She currently lives in Nevada City, California, where she is working as an instructional assistant. Kate shares a studio, "The Morris Garage," with her mother, Miriam. She paints whenever possible.
Kate started her art career as a child working alongside her mother, creating ceramic sculpture. She has shown and sold her work from an early age and was included in some juried shows as the youngest participant.
Kate shifted her focus to photography in her late teenage years, gradually evolving into mixed media collage and acrylic painting.
Kate uses unique methods of painting that involve washing, dabbing, dripping, and adding translucent textural elements. She often incorporates her own photography in her mixed-media paintings.
