Diogenes was a Greek philosopher who lived an austere life while
challenging the political and social systems of his time. He admired
dogs, and his grave has a statue of a dog above it. Jerry Brown also is
known for his austerity, and it seemed appropriate to make him into
Diogenes, looking for an honest man at the state capital in
Sacramento, California. This portrait also alludes to Jerry Brown's first
term of Governor when he was known as "Governor Moonbeam."
Bisque fired, but unglazed piece.
