Repository of the Unknown was inspired by former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld. He said "...because as we know, there are known knowns; there are
things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown
unknowns - the ones we don't know we don't know." 12 February, 2002.
This installation invited gallery-goers to add their own known unknowns to the Repository by kneeling in front of the basketball hoop, whispering their unknown
into a clay wafer, folding it, and tossing it through the hoop. The results are pictured at right. Components of the installation are black felt, rose petals, shredded
paper ropes, sand, clay, basketball hoop, mirrors, clear tubing filled with colored water, balloons, and probably some things that are currently unknown.
